For four days in June 2026, Nchanga Golf Club in Chingola became the stage for world-class professional golf as the KCM Golf Challenge brought the Sunshine Tour to the Copperbelt.
From 18–21 June, leading professionals competed on Nchanga's historic championship course, producing a tournament filled with dramatic finishes, exceptional golf, local pride and unforgettable moments. The championship ultimately went down to the final holes, with South Africa's Samuel Simpson emerging victorious at 18-under-par.
Samuel Simpson Seals a Dramatic Victory
Simpson delivered a spectacular final round of 66 to claim his third Sunshine Tour title.
The decisive moment came late in his round. An eagle on the 17th followed by a birdie on the 18th moved Simpson to 18-under-par and into the clubhouse lead, where he faced a tense wait as the final group completed their rounds.
Four players Pieter Moolman, Simon du Plooy, Oliver Goldhill and Haydn Porteous finished just one shot behind at 17-under-par, making Simpson's victory one of the closest finishes of the tournament.
The victory also continued Simpson's remarkable record in Zambia, following his 2025 Mopani Zambia Open victory and another strong performance at the 2026 Mopani Zambia Open the week before.
Celebrating the Team Behind the Champion
Golf is rarely won by the player alone, and the KCM Golf Challenge celebrated that partnership by recognising Simpson's caddie, Wes Hlope, who received the Sunshine Tour Winning Caddie Medallion.

Keagan Bwalya: Chingola's Homegrown Hero
One of the tournament's most inspiring stories came from Keagan Bwalya, a Chingola based amateur who earned his place among the professionals.
Bwalya opened with a 73 before producing an impressive 67 in the second round to make the cut. He went on to complete the tournament at 7-over-par, finishing tied 60th and, importantly, as the only amateur in the field to make the cut.
His performance gave local golf fans a player to cheer for and demonstrated the potential of Zambia's emerging golfing talent. As part of the tournament programme, more than 60 young golfers from across the Copperbelt took part in a dedicated Junior Golf Clinic, giving them an opportunity to learn, practise and interact with Sunshine Tour professionals.

On 23 May 2026, the fairways and grounds of Nchanga Golf Club became the centre of one of Chingola's biggest community sporting celebrations as thousands of runners, families, athletes, fitness enthusiasts and supporters came together for the KCM Marathon 2026.
Proudly sponsored by Konkola Copper Mines Plc, the marathon brought the spirit of “Manja Pamodzi” Together, We Can Achieve Great Things to life, transforming race day into a celebration of health, endurance, unity and community.
The event started at 05:00, with Nchanga Golf Club serving as the official venue and starting point.

The 2026 edition was designed to make participation accessible to people with different abilities and levels of experience. The programme included the 5km, 10km, 15km, 21km and 42km races, alongside an Executive Walk, a children's event and a dedicated category for differently abled participants.

The main marathon was hosted at Nchanga Golf Club and featured multiple distances designed to accommodate participants of different abilities.

The activation provided an opportunity for participants to get moving, connect with fellow fitness enthusiasts and experience the atmosphere surrounding one of Chingola's biggest community sporting events.

Hosted at Nchanga Golf Club in Chingola, the tournament brought together four of Zambia's leading golf clubs, Nchanga Golf Club, Chainama Hills Golf Club, Nkana Golf Club and Bonanza Golf Club for a weekend of team competition, camaraderie and high-quality golf.
For Nchanga, competing on home soil carried an added sense of responsibility. The club's championship course has a long association with major tournaments, having hosted events including the Zambia Open and, more recently, the KCM Golf Challenge. The Quadrangular provided another opportunity for Nchanga's players to demonstrate the depth and quality of golf within the club.

On 29 March 2025, Nchanga Golf Club became the starting point of a new chapter in Chingola's sporting and community story when it hosted the inaugural KCM Marathon.
Organised by Nchanga Golf Club and supported by Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) Plc, the inaugural event was conceived as more than a race. It was an initiative centred on health, community wellbeing, sports development and opportunity, bringing people together through the universal language of sport. The event set an ambitious target of 2,000 runners, signalling from the outset that the KCM Marathon was intended to become a major fixture on Chingola's sporting calendar.
A Marathon for Everyone
The inaugural marathon was designed to welcome participants with different levels of fitness and experience. The programme featured four principal running distances:
42 km Marathon
21 km Half Marathon
10 km Run
5 km Run
An Executive 5 km walk was also included, broadening participation beyond competitive runners.
The 42 km winners were promised sponsorship to participate in the prestigious Comrades Marathon in South Africa, adding an international pathway to an event that was, at its heart, designed to develop local sporting participation.

A New Generation Takes to the Fairways

Nchanga Golf Club has taken an important step in developing the next generation of Zambian golfers with the revival of its Junior Golf Development Programme, supported by Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) Plc.
The revival marks a significant milestone for the club's junior section, which had been dormant for more than a decade. The programme has now been re-established with a dedicated committee, a full-time coach and experienced Nchanga Golf Club members who are helping introduce young players to the fundamentals of the game.
The programme's maiden junior tournament brought together young golfers, parents, guardians, coaches and club officials for a day of competition, learning and enjoyment on the course.
The club was also honoured by the presence of KCM Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Malcolm Mewett, who encouraged the young golfers to remain disciplined, committed to their training and confident in their abilities.
